NORTON, Massachusetts – The Mass Super Senior Amateur Championships is ironically the youngest Mass Golf Championship and contains the oldest age category for a standalone event. Beginning this year, super seniors in Massachusetts will play for the newest yearly award in the state for amateur golf.
The Super Senior Player of the Year is the latest addition to the Mass Golf Player of the Year Awards Presented by Delta. The award is open to all players ages 65 who compete in at least one Mass Golf sponsored events included in the point system (including qualifiers).
“With the success and growth of the Super Senior Amateur Championship and the golfers we have in the state and how competitive they are, it was well overdue to establish the player of the year point system and recognize the top super senior players that we have each and every year,” said Kevin Eldridge, Mass Golf’s Director of Rules & Competitions.
This announcement of the new award comes two years after the Women’s Senior Player of the Year and the Girls’ Junior Player of the Year were added to the year-end honorees.
As announced last week, Delta Air Lines has become the official sponsor of Mass Golf’s Player of the Year Awards, which recognizes the top-performing amateur golfers in the state each season. The presenting rights of the Player of the Year program include a tie into Delta’s “Keep Climbing” campaign. Monthly standings and updates for the Mass Golf Player of the Year Awards presented by Delta will be shared with the broader community as the race to “Keep Climbing” each month heats up. Be sure to follow along as the top competitors in Massachusetts work to Keep Climbing the standings towards Player of the Year honors.
“It’s always nice to recognize the best golfers from each category at the end of the season,” Eldridge said. “This new award definitely solidifies it and allows us to recognize another player’s longevity and consistency throughout an entire season of events.”
The current awards are as follows:
