NORTON, Massachusetts – Mass Golf is thrilled to announce that Steve Derderian has been named the association’s new Manager of Communications. Derderian, who most recently served as a Staff Writer and Copy Editor at the Cape Cod Times, began his new role late last month.
“Steve is a strong addition to the team and his work so far demonstrates that,” said Jesse Menachem, Mass Golf’s Executive Director/CEO. “His familiarity with the association and our competitive golfers is a great asset to us. We are all looking forward to the future of the department and his ability to tell the story of golf in Massachusetts.”

Derderian, a graduate of Ithaca College, comes to Mass Golf from the Cape Cod Times where he was responsible for producing, editing and pitching game stories, features, previews and staff reports on local, high school and college sports, including the Cape Cod Baseball League. He was also a co-host of the weekly Facebook Live podcast “Cape Sports Now”, recapping and previewing various sports and teams in the area.
Prior to his work at the Cape Cod Times, Derderian spent a year at The Daily Star in upstate New York where he was a Staff Writer and Assistant Editor. While finishing up his undergraduate degree at Ithaca, he was a part of the Cross Country & Track and Field team and completed many internships including one with Worcester Bravehearts, a summer collegiate baseball team.
“I’m extremely grateful to Jesse Menachem, Catherine Carmignani and the entire Mass Golf staff for welcoming me into this position with open arms,” Derderian said. “I share the organization’s collective mission to advance golf throughout the state by promoting the competitive spirit and camaraderie it brings to those involved. I’ve spent part of the last three years covering standout members within the golf community who live and/or play on Cape Cod. Now I plan to bring my passion for storytelling to a statewide level, sharing compelling moments of all Massachusetts golfers, both past and present.”
In this new role Derderian, an award-winning writer, will serve as the primary point of contact for all media relations. He will also be the primary writer for all feature stories, recaps, press releases and website editorials.
“Steve is a forward-thinking communications professional,” Carmignani said. “He understands the importance of crafting compelling stories and delivering them through various mediums. There is a rich history of golf in the state of Massachusetts and Steve has shown great enthusiasm for bringing it to life.”
Derderian will join a communications and marketing department that includes Catherine Carmignani, who has served as the association’s Director of Communications and Marketing for the past six months, and Stephen Hanjack, another new addition to the team as the Assistant Director of Strategic Communications.
