TAUNTON, Massachusetts – On the fifth day of qualifying for the 2019 Massachusetts Mid Amateur Championship, 16 competitors from Wednesday’s qualifier at Segregansett CC in Taunton earned entrance into the Championship Proper being contested at West Newton’s Brae Burn Country Club in late September.
An additional four competitors who finished one spot below the final qualifying spot at the site earned alternate status and will be placed on a priority list per the Alternate Policy, which can be found on the Mass Golf Policies and Procedures Page.

In the second to last Mid Amateur qualifier of the season, Hingham’s Bud Schultz fired the lowest score of the day and was the only competitor to finish under par on Wednesday as another 16 competitors advanced to next month’s Championship Proper.
The 60-year old Schultz, of Black Rock Country Club, tallied two birdies on the day to one bogey for his top spot on the leaderboard. He recorded his first birdie on the par-5 second hole, but would give it back by making a bogey on the par-4 eighth hole. Schultz would finish the front nine with an even par 36. The back nine was smooth sailing for Schultz as he made all pars, except for a birdie on the 14th hole and ending the day with a 1-under 71.
15 others who finished between 1-over 73 and 5-over 77 also advanced from Wednesday’s qualifier.
Celebrating its 36th year in 2019, the Massachusetts Mid Amateur Championship is one of Mass Golf’s youngest Championship. It is open to amateur golfers who have an active Mass Golf/GHIN Handicap Index at any public, private, semi-private, municipal or non-real estate Mass Golf member course/club and who have reached their 25th birthday by September 24, 2019.
