2024 Mother Son Modified Scotch Tournament at The Ranch GC - MASSGOLF

loren & philip le gassick Win the MOTHER SON TITLE; timmy adams & deborah o’kelly CLAIM JUNIOR DIVISION

SOUTHWICK, Massachusetts (July 15, 2024) — Loren Le Gassick and Philip Le Gassick, of The Kittansett Club, took home the Mother Son overall title after a one hole playoff. The duo had secured the senior division title by shooting 5-under 72.

Deborah O’Kelly (Barnstable Golf) and her son Timmy Adams (Pocasset Golf Club) won the junior division title, shooting a strong 5-under 72.

O’Kelly/Adams and Le Gassick/Le Gassick were pushed to a playoff for the overall title, with the Le Gassick pairing coming out on top after winning the first hole with a birdie.

This year’s tournament was also delayed by weather at 2:40pm, disrupting play and keeping course conditions interesting for competitors.

Entries were open to mothers and grandmothers, as well as sons and grandsons. In modified scotch, both golfers hit a tee shot, select which drive to play, and then alternate shots until the hole is complete.

The event featured Gross and Net scores, using 60% of lower handicap plus 40% of higher handicap for team handicap.

SENIOR DIVISION (Sons 19 and older)

Loren Le Gassick and Philip Le Gassick (The Kittansett Club) secured the top of the gross division with a score of 5-under par 72.

“I played in the parent child events with my father and my mother in the 80’s,” Loren said. “My mother and I were in a playoff, and I have wonderful memories of parent child events, they are really, really fun.”

Loren has an extensive golf legacy; an ACC Champion on Wake Forest’s 1985 team, as well as a winner of the New England Women’s Amateur, and an active participant in Women’s Amateur Championships, both in the United States and the U.K.. Her older son, Philip, also led Old Rochester to a Division 2 state title in 2022. Suffice to say, it was a power duo taking over The Ranch on Monday.

Loren and her sons haven’t played in the Mother Son tournament before, but Philip was grateful they did this year.

“It was a lot of fun for me… my mom is quite competitive, she’s been around for golf, but we’ve never really played in any tournaments like this,” Philip said. “I gotta say I didn’t expect it to be this fun… Mass Golf put on such a great event, I can’t believe we missed it for this many years.”

The 5 birdies amassed during their round undoubtedly helped them prevail over Michelle Morgan (Amherst Golf Club) and her son Jesse Morgan (Northfield Golf Club), who finished 3-under par 72.

JUNIOR DIVISION (Sons 18 and Younger)

In the Junior Division, Timmy Adams (Pocasset Golf Club) and his mom Deborah O’Kelly (Barnstable Golf) earned a commanding victory, shooting 5-under par 72. The pair eagled the first hole, and collected 5 more birdies throughout their round.

Loren Le Gassick and younger son Peter Le Gassick (The Kittansett Club) finished second in the division, with a score of 72 even.
