Mass Golf to Honor 125th Anniversary with Year-Long Celebration

NORTON, Massachusetts (January 2, 2025) – The start of 2025 marks a distinct milestone for Mass Golf, as the association will officially begin the celebration of its 125th anniversary. With a commemorative logo, a full calendar of events, a special edition of its publication, and a robust collection of multimedia components, Mass Golf plans to honor its 125-year history throughout the 2025 calendar year.

In 2023, Mass Golf’s Board of Directors officially passed a motion recognizing the association’s founding year as 1900, coinciding with the establishment of the Women’s Golf Association of Boston (WGAB). As the organization grew and expanded its reach, it adopted a new name: the Women’s Golf Association of Massachusetts (WGAM).

Previously, Mass Golf had recognized 1903, the year in which the Massachusetts Golf Association (MGA) was established. These two historic organizations (WGAM & MGA) were officially united on January 1, 2018, forming what is now known as Mass Golf.

To lead the efforts in celebrating this milestone, a 125th Anniversary Working Group has been formed, made up of Mass Golf leadership, board members, historians, and member club representatives. Working group members include: President Megan Bearce; Past Presidents Tom Berkel, Cindy Zattich and Terry Wappel; Bill Jenks, Jackie Singleton, Tara Joy-Connelly, Jesse Menachem, and Stephen Hanjack.

“This 125th celebration speaks to the rich history of golf in Massachusetts,” said Executive Director/CEO Jesse Menachem. “We are excited to have such an enthusiastic and knowledgeable group of individuals helping us honor the past through these events, championships, our publication, and videos.”

As part of this year-long celebration, Mass Golf will utilize the newly created 125th commemorative logo. In some instances, the golden shield will be used as a standalone mark.
