PHOENIX, Arizona – One of the Bay State’s own found herself atop the Bank of Hope Founders Cup leaderboard this past weekend in Phoenix, Arizona.
Rockland’s Megan Khang fired a four-round score of 13-under par 275 to finish T5 overall and just one stroke out of second place in the LPGA event that was won by Inbee Park.
Khang, who was one back of T2 finishers Laura Davies, Marina Alex and Ariya Jutanugarn, began the event with scores of 1-under par 71 during the first two rounds. She skyrocketed into ninth place overall following a third-round score of 7-under par 65 on Saturday.
On that day, Khang carded seven birdies and zero bogeys for a blemish-free scorecard. She played the front nine of Wildfire Golf Club at 4-under par 32 and the back nine to the turn of a 3-under par 33. She continued her move towards the top on Sunday with a score of 4-under par 68, which was the second-lowest score posted by any competitor on the final day.
Her T5 finish this past weekend marks her best result in 2018. Since turning professional in 2017, Khang has established herself as one the rising young stars. Last November, Khang earned her largest professional payout – $101,467 – with a T3 finish at the Blue Bay LPGA held in Hainan Island, China.
She has posted six career top 10s and earned a total of $831,575. This past off-season, Khang also announced a new sponsorship deal with Newburyport-based Tournament Solutions (learn more).
