2024 Dolly Sullivan Title goes to Walpole CC - MASSGOLF

ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL Dolly Sullivan TOURNAMENT, A Scholarship Fundraiser

STERLING, Massachusetts (July 23, 2024) – The Massachusetts summer weather always keeps us on our toes during golf season. After a hot and humid double shotgun on Monday, the skies opened up Tuesday morning to greet the final shotgun of the 2024 Dolly Sullivan team tournament with a morning shower. As things cleared up and conditions shifted, there was lots of golf to be played. With a mid-day sprinkle on Tuesday, the event was concluded for another year. Teams gathered from Mass Golf Member Clubs across the state to celebrate the history and legacy of Dolly Sullivan in order to further encourage and support young female Ouimet Junior Scholars.

Dolly Sullivan the niece of American golf legend Francis Ouimet, was one of the winningest golfers in WGAM history. Her longtime commitment to Milton Academy and their golf program can only be thought of as inspiration for the beginning of a tournament in her name in 1982. Furthering the game of golf and educational opportunities for young women in Massachusetts has allowed this tournament to remain a staple in the Mass Golf schedule.

On Monday morning, the team from Walpole Country Club shot the low gross score of the tournament, a 5-under-par 66 that included 6-birdies by Erin Sullivan. Sullivan was joined by Lauri Giffin, Beth Wohler, and Rita Murphy with the low score for the start of the tournament. On Monday afternoon, the team from Renaissance of Maureen Sullivan, Teri Burtoft, Betsy Masse, and Joanne Gagnon fell just a stroke short of the morning leaders with a 4-under 67.

On Tuesday, Christine Coughlin, Joyce LaBonte, Rosie Naughton, and Ann Rhieu of Green Hill Municipal Golf Course shot a 2-under 69.

For the first time in almost 10 years, the overall winners of the 2024 Dolly Sullivan is the team from Walpole CC.
