UXBRIDGE, Massachusetts – On the second day of qualifying for the 2018 Massachusetts Amateur Championship, being contested from July 9-13 at William J. Devine Golf Course and George Wright Golf Course in Boston, 13 competitors from Thursday’s qualifier, held at Blissful Meadows Golf Club, earned entrance into the Championship Proper.
Celebrating its 110th year in 2018, the Massachusetts Amateur Championship remains the oldest Mass Golf Championship open to men and women alike.
An additional four competitors who finished one spot below the final qualifying spot, earned alternate status and will be placed on a priority list per the Alternate Policy, which can be found on the Mass Golf Policies and Procedures Page.
Falmouth Country Club’s Justin Turbeville, of Sandwich, earned medalist honors Thursday at Blissful Meadows Golf Club, tallying a birdie and three bogeys, to finish at 2-over par 74 amongst a field of 64 competitors who were eyeing the chance to compete in the state amateur championship in July. The 18-year old Turbeville led a group of qualifiers who have long competed in Mass Golf Championship events, including 2011 state amateur champion Ryan Riley, who finished Thursday’s 18-hole qualifying round at 3-over 75.
With 13 competitors punching tickets to the Massachusetts Amateur Championship Thursday, the field size has increased to 38 total qualifiers after a pair of local qualifiers were held Wednesday.
