WESTFIELD, Massachusetts | BEVERLY, Massachusetts – On the fourth day of qualifying for the 2018 Massachusetts Amateur Public Links Championship, being contested from July 30-31 at The Ranch Golf Club in Southwick, 36 competitors from Monday’s two qualifying sites, held at Tekoa Country Club in Westfield and Beverly Golf & Tennis Center in Beverly, earned entrance into the Championship Proper.
An additional 15 competitors from Monday’s two sites, who finished one spot below the final qualifying spot, earned alternate status and will be placed on a priority list per the Alternate Policy, which can be found on the Mass Golf Policies and Procedures Page.
Competing on his home course, longtime Mass Golf competitor Todd Ezold tallied seven birdies on his way to claiming medalist honors. The 55-year old from Westfield, who won the event in 2008 and most recently placed T10 in the 2014 APL Championship, the last time he competed, was one of three from his home course to qualify on Monday.
Across the state at Beverly Golf & Tennis Center, four of the five top scorers on the leaderboard qualified from their home club as Cam Morrison and Christian McKenna were among the competitors to take a share of medalist honors, as the pair each fired matching 71’s Monday.
Established in 1982, the Massachusetts Amateur Public Links Championship is open to amateur golfers who are bona fide public course players at a public Mass Golf member club (a course/club that provides playing opportunities for the general public seven days a week) and maintain an up-to-date Mass Golf/GHIN Handicap Index not exceeding 12.0 (as determined by the May 15, 2018 Handicap Revision).
