In the fourth of six qualifiers for the Massachusetts Amateur Public Links Championship, 19 players advanced to the Championship Proper during Tuesday’s event at Crystal Lake Golf Club in Haverhill.
Sandy Burr Country Club in Wayland will host this year’s championship on August 10-11. Entries are open to amateur golfers who are Mass Golf Members and are bona fide public course players at a public Mass Golf member club (a course/club that provides playing opportunities for the general public seven days a week) and maintain an up-to-date Handicap Index® not exceeding 12.0 (at the time of registration).
Tim Richmond (Olde Salem Greens Golf Course) and John Brickley (Mount Hood Golf Club) both will return to this year’s championship after shooting 70 and 71, respectively. Richmond shot a bogey-free 33 on the back nine, with birdies on the 16th and 18th holes. Brickley also made birdie on the final hole to finish even-par 71.
Kyle Farias (Allendale Country Club), who won a Division 2 state championship with the Bishop Stang boys golf team this past fall, also qualified by making four birdies en route to a 72. Ethan Doyle (MIAA), who represented Salem State University at the NCAA Division III National Championship, was one of six players to make the cut at 6-over 77.
Leif Jacobsen (73), David Conte (75) and TJ Koziol (76) joined a growing number of George Wright Golf Course members who will play in the Amateur Public Links Championship. Last year, George Wright had nine members competing, among them champion James Imai.
