Qualifying for the 2024 Massachusetts Junior Amateur Championship concluded Thursday with an 18-hole event held Thursday at Quashnet Valley Country Club in Mashpee.
The Massachusetts Junior Amateur Championship will take place August 5-8 at Bass River Golf Course and Bayberry Hills Golf Course, two stellar public facilities on Cape Cod. The winner of each will earn an automatic exemption into the 2025 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship. The competition is open to any amateur golfers aged 18 and under who have an active Mass Golf Membership through August 5, 2024.
On Thursday, Tyler Fawaz (North Andover Country Club) made a pair of birdies on holes 13 and 14 and made par the rest of the way to lead the field at even-par 72. Both Michael Boland (Walpole Country Club) and Cole Adams (Pocasset Golf Club) were one stroke back with a 73. Boland was 3-over early but played the final 14 holes at 2-under, while Adams made birdie on four of his last six holes to move up the leaderboard.
Jack Flynn (Youth on Course/Mass Golf) also qualified at 2-over 74 with 16 pars and 2 bogeys in his round. Timmy Adams, also of Pocasset, was one of five to qualify on the number with a 78. Max Bohane (Cohasset Golf Club) made birdie on the par-5 18th to sneak in above the cutline.
