20 Players Advance To Mass Junior Amateur Championship Powered By KOHR Golf - MASSGOLF

20 Golfers Qualify For the 2024 Massachusetts Junior Amateur Championship

This week, 20 individuals guaranteed a spot on the roster for the 2024 Massachusetts Junior Amateur Championship. On Monday, 13 players advanced through a qualifier held at Marion Golf Club in Marion, while seven more advanced Tuesday at Cape Ann Golf Club in Essex.

The Massachusetts Junior Amateur Championship will take place August 5-8 at Bass River Golf Course and Bayberry Hills Golf Course, two stellar public facilities on Cape Cod. The winner of each will earn an automatic exemption into the 2025 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship. The competition is open to any amateur golfers aged 18 and under through August 5, 2024, who has an active Mass Golf Membership.

At Marion Golf Club on Monday, Julian Ragosa (Winchester Country Club) led the way with a 1-under-par 67, including five birdies in his round. Johnny Gillooly (The Milton-Hoosic Club) was solo second with a 69, while John Grimes (Student Member/MIAA) made four birdies en route to a 70.

Tristan Spiess (Youth on Course/Mass Golf) shot 1-under 33 on the front nine, helping him be among six players to qualify on the number at 72. Joey Nee (Walpole Country Club) also made a birdie on the par-3 17th (8th hole) to card 72. Christopher Morrow, 14, who played in U.S. Open Local Qualifying, also shot a 72.

At Cape Ann Golf Club on Tuesday, John Scully (Winchester Country Club), Tripp Hollister (Nashawtuc Country Club), and Zachary Bova (Meadow Brook Golf Club) also shot 2-over 70 to lead the seven qualifiers. Bova made four birdies, including on the final hole, while Scully opened his round with a birdie and made another on the par-3 7th hole, one of the longest in the state for a public course.

Cooper Mohr (North Andover Country Club) and Alex Jackson (Ipswich Country Club) also advanced with a 71, and fellow Ipswich member Jack Carew and 14-year-old Owen Shea (Winchester Country Club) qualified on the number with a 72.
