Several recognizable names qualified for the Massachusetts Mid-Amateur Championship this week in qualifying events at Blackstone National Golf Club and Gannon Municipal Course. In total, 22 players advanced to the Championship Proper taking place September 18-20 at Willowbend in Mashpee.
Entries are open to amateur golfers who have reached their 25th birthday by September 18, 2023, and who have an active Mass Golf Membership with a Handicap Index not exceeding 5.4 (at the time of registration).
On Wednesday at Blackstone, Damon Lusk (Meadow Brook Golf Club) ran away with medalist honors to qualify for the Mass Mid-Amateur. Lusk shot an impressive 5-under 67, totaling seven birdies in the round.
Derek Ducharme (Whitinsville Golf Club) followed in second, shooting 2-under 70. Ducharme started the round by making birdie on his opening two holes for a total of five.
Tying for third place were Jackson Kingman (Concord Country Club) and Daniel Bukoff (Foxborough Country Club), as both players shot 1-under 71.
On Thursday at Gannon Municipal, Brian Foley (Cyprian Keyes) and Hunter Stone (Tedesco Country Club) took medalist honors with an even-par 70 to lead 12 players who qualified. Both Foley and Stone had three birdies each during the round.
Tying for third place was Joe Brosseau (GreatHorse) and Sean Winchell (Gannon Municipal GC), shooting 1-over 71. Winchell had an eagle on the second hole and made four birdies on the back nine.
