With the 105th Massachusetts Junior Amateur Powered By KOHR Golf set to begin at the end of July, another 28 players have advanced to this year’s Championship Proper at GreatHorse.
The 2023 Massachusetts Junior Amateur Championship (July 31-August 3) is open to any amateur golfers aged 18 and under through August 3, 2023 who has an active Mass Golf Membership.
At Bayberry Hills Golf Course on June 28, Barnstable High School standout Colin Gleason (Barnstable Golf) sank seven birdies en route to a 3-under-par 69 for the best score of 11 qualifiers. Druv Campanella (KOHR Golf) made a late birdie on the 16th to get above the cutline at 4-over 76.
At Long Meadow Golf Club on Wednesday, local member Trevor Drew qualified for the second straight year as he carded a 3-under 69 with four birdies and just one bogey throughout his round. Carson Muse (Winchester Country Club) shot even-par 36 on both nines to advance, while Matt Weed (Tedesco Country Club) had a double-bogey on his third hole, but he finished with a birdie to get to 4-over and be one of seven to make the cut.
At Needham Golf Club on Thursday, Beverly’s Will Ryan (USGA/Mass Golf) shot 2-under 70, knocking down five birdies and finishing the front nine at 3-under 33. John Battaglino (Bay Club at Mattapoisett) and Matt McColgan (Nashawtuc Country Club) both shot even-par 72, with Battaglino starting his round with an eagle 3. Liam Lewandowski (Franklin Country Club) added a clutch birdie on 16 to finish 3-over 75 and be one of 10 to qualify from this site.
