This week, 16 individuals guaranteed a spot on the player’s list for the 2023 Massachusetts Junior Amateur Championship. On Monday, nine players advanced through a qualifier held at Marion Golf Club in Marion, while seven more advanced Tuesday at Agawam Municipal Golf Course in Feeding Hills.
The Massachusetts Junior Amateur Championship is open to any amateur golfers aged 18 and under through August 3, 2023 who has an active Mass Golf Membership.
At Marion Golf Club, Belmont Country Club’s Ryan Hoffman shot a 3-under 65 to lead the day with an eagle and three birdies. J.P. Noone (Weston Golf Club) was one back with a score of 2-under 66 with an eagle and four birdies.
At Agawam Municipal Golf Course, Patrick Friel (NEPGA) finished with a score of even-par 71. Despite having three bogeys on the card, Friel had birdies on holes 5, 6, and 12. Coming in second was Jack McCabe (Marlborough Country Club) shooting a 1-over-par 72, with a highlight-worthy eagle on the 17th hole. With a three-way tie for third, Gunnar Moore (Country Club of Greenfield), William Johnson (The Country Club), and Chad Correia (Student Member/MIAA) all shot scores of 1-under 67.
