The first qualifier for the 115th Massachusetts Amateur Championship began Tuesday at Red Tail Golf Club as a total of eight players advanced to the Championship Proper.
The Championship is open to amateur golfers who have an active Mass Golf Membership with a Handicap Index® not exceeding 4.4 (at the time of registration). Entrants must also have played and posted five rounds at any Mass Golf member club/course within 12 months of the entry close date.
University of Michigan golfer Jack O’Donnell (Boston Golf Club) made four birdies to lead the field at 2-under 70. Alex Jeffers (Woodland Golf Club) and Jake Bauer (LeBaron Hills Country Club) trailed O’Donnell by one stroke and tied for 2nd with scores of 1-under 71.
Georgetown University golfer Max Hutter (Weston Golf Club) was the lone golfer to shoot even-par score of 72.
There was a 4-way tie for 5th place between Owen Egan (Winchester Country Club), Patrick Ginnity (Northern Spy Country Club), Ben Kelly (Blue Hill Country Club), and Shane Walsh (George Wright Golf Course), all having shot scores of 1-over 73 to qualify on the number.
