The announcement was made official by Mass Golf Executive Director/CEO Jesse Menachem. Howell, who has spent the past five years at the New Hampshire Golf Association, will begin his new position at Mass Golf on February 1st.

“We are excited to welcome Greg Howell as a full-time member of our staff,” said Menachem. “His experience working here in New England as well as his outstanding qualifications and work ethic made him the ideal choice. There is no question that he will continue to elevate the quality of our NEGA and Mass Golf operations.”

A native of Massachusetts, Howell was a 2014 graduate of Southern New Hampshire University who went on to spend two seasons with the Manchester Monarchs Hockey Club. Beginning in 2014, Howell became a part of the NHGA staff and has seen his role at the association expand. He first served as director of member services & junior golf and, for the past four years, has held the position of tournament director. In that role, Howell was responsible for managing more than 40 NHGA tournaments.

Howell was also responsible for overseeing the association’s volunteer base and coordinating course ratings with Member Clubs. He is also proficient in the Rules of Golf and Tournament Management software.

“Greg has established himself as one of the most reliable and talented golf administrators and tournament directors in the business,” said Harry McCracken, NEGA’s executive secretary. “Our Executive Committee and volunteers have the utmost respect for Greg’s ability and the work he has done for the New Hampshire Golf Association.”

In his new role with Mass Golf, Howell will be responsible for the operations of all NEGA Championships and Qualifiers held across the six New England states. He will also have full oversight and management of local and sectional USGA qualifiers held at Mass Golf Member Clubs.

Howell takes over for Laura Nochta, who was recently named Manager of Competitions at the United States Golf Association (USGA).

“Over the past six years working with the NHGA I have had the pleasure to work with members of the Mass Golf staff on numerous occasions, and I am elated to join such a great team,” said Howell. “I am looking forward to the opportunity to continue all of the incredible work that Laura has done in the last two seasons with NEGA. While I will miss everyone involved with the New Hampshire Golf Association, I am glad this role will give me an opportunity to continue to connect with not only New Hampshire, but the rest of the passionate New England Golf community.”

Online registration for the 2019 New England Amateur Championship and 2019 New England Senior Amateur Championship will go live at NEGAGolf.org on February 7th. The USGA Qualifying season will kick off on April 17 at the Bay Club at Mattapoisett with the hosting of a U.S. Senior Women’s Open sectional qualifier.
