NATICK, Massachusetts – Last summer discussions began to percolate about a new program location for The First Tee of Massachusetts. The idea was to open new opportunities for local communities that would further expand the reach of the Mass Golf’s junior program which currently impacts more than 30,000 children annually through a combination of on-course clinics, in-school programming and community group outreach.
Months of planning resulted in the launch and introduction of The First Tee of Massachusetts’ sixth program location at KOHR Golf Center in Natick. The newest facility, led by Bill McInerney, the CEO/Co-Founder of KOHR Golf Center, will be offering five weeks of summer programming beginning on July 15 and running through the end of August.
The facility will also – on Monday, July 23rd – be hosting the 1st Annual KOHR Invitational Charity Golf Tournament at Hopkinton Country Club with a portion of the proceeds from the event to benefit The First Tee of Massachusetts.
“The opening of the newest program location will give us the opportunity to reach communities that have not yet been fully exposed to our programming,” said Kyle Harris, The First Tee of Massachusetts’ director of operations. “We could not be happier with the support we have seen from KOHR and look forward to making a huge impact in 2018 and beyond.”
The first summer of programming at KOHR Golf Center will feature The First Tee PLAYer level classes which are geared for entry level into The First Tee certification program no matter the golf skill ability or age of the participant. Participants will be introduced to playing the game of golf while learning The First Tee Code of Conduct, The First Tee Nine Core Values, appreciating the rules and etiquette of the sport, and developing a young person’s golf skills. The program is open to any child from the age of 7 to 17. The cost of the five-week program – which features 15 hours of programming by enthusiastic and trained coaches – is $99 per participant.
“It is a proven way for kids to experience golf at its most fun level,” said Harris, who took over his position with The First Tee of Massachusetts earlier this summer and years of building programs with The First Tee of Utah. “Our programs are all about creating a positive youth development environment with the goal of helping these kids become good golfers but even better people.”

While summer programming will continue through August 10 with fall programming to be announced in the next few months, KOHR Golf Center will further promote The First Tee of Massachusetts through its newly-introduced charity event to be held on July 23rd at Hopkinton Country Club. The 18-hole charity event will feature a four-person scramble that includes lunch prior to a 1:00 p.m. shotgun start.
Each foursome will also receive a FREE open clinic/practice session with McInerney on Sunday, July 22 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
“The event will give people the opportunity to play one of the premier country clubs in Massachusetts to benefit an outstanding organization,” said McInerney, who has been recognized as a FCG TOP 25 Elite Junior Golf Coach in the USA, along with being listed on the Golf Digest Best in State list. “Part of KOHR Golf’s mission is to grow the game of golf, so there is a natural connection with the First Tee of Massachusetts.”
