NORTON, Massachusetts – For the second consecutive Monday, more than 30 players qualified for the 112th Massachusetts Amateur Championship via three different qualifying events. Gardner Municipal Golf Course, Presidents Golf Course (Quincy) and Springfield Country Club all hosted events Monday to kick off the second week of Mass Amateur qualifying.
Granite Links Golf Club (Quincy) hosted the eighth total Mass Amateur qualifier Tuesday, with 11 more players earning entrance into the Championship Proper, which will take place July 13-17 at The Kittansett Club. Last week, 50 players qualified across four events.

At Granite Links, college players Andrew McInerney (Charter Oaks CC) and Eric Lifson (Nashawtuc CC) split medalist honors at 1-under 70. McInerney, a rising senior at the University of Richmond, shot par or better on the first 13 holes and finished even on the back nine. Lifson, a rising senior at Kenyon College (OH), started his round with a bogey on the 10th hole but collected five birdies, including holes No. 1, 4 and 5 to stay even with McInerney.
Dan Frodigh (Dedham C & PC), a rising junior at the University of Hartford, finished at even par, while Matt Borghi (Whitinsville GC) qualified at 1-over thanks, in part, to an eagle on the 515-yard, par-5 12th hole.
John Hiller, 14, (Bay Club at Mattapoisett) qualified at 2-over, as did Amir Bagherzadeh, who qualified on his home course. Josh Lavallee (Haverhill CC), 17, the 2018 MIAA Division II individual state champion at Central Catholic High School, got in at 3-over.
At Gardner, exactly 10 players shot even-par or better to advance. Worcester firefighter Brian Foley (Cyprian Keyes GC) earned medalist honors with a 5-under 66, making birdie four times on the front nine and sinking a 20-footer on the 18th to cap off his round with a birdie.
Most of the remaining qualifiers were college players. Jack Tobin (Marlborough CC), a rising sophomore at Division-I Siena College, also made a birdie putt on the 18th to finish at 3-under. Playing partners Jack Tegan (TPC Boston), a sophomore at Berry College, and Tyden Wilson (Nashawtuc CC), a rising junior at Queens University of Charlotte, both shot 2-under, and Riley Rohlfs (Nabnasset Lake CC), a rising sophomore at York College (PA), and Alex Yun (Brae Burn CC), a rising junior at Claremont Mudd Scripps (CA), shot 1-under. Owen Quinn (Wachusett CC), a graduate student at Lehigh University, finished at even-par.
At Presidents, 12 players also made the cut, which was also even par. Dan Howard (Norfolk GC) surged late by making birdie on three of the last four holes to finish 3-under, also besting the field by two strokes. An eagle on the 500-yard, par-5 16th helped Patrick Paulson (Stow Acres CC) finish at 1-under with three others, including Nick Drago (Plymouth CC), the head coach at DI Wagner College.
At Springfield, only three players shot par or better, but 11 players got in as the cutline for 8th place was 4-over. Villanova-bound Jonathan Elkins shot 1-under 71 to earn medalist honors on his home course. Elkins made birdie four times and still led handily despite a bogey on the par-3 18th.
Connor Phillips (Longmeadow CC), recently named captain of Holy Cross’ men’s golf team, shot 72 to tie former Hartford University player Anthony Vecchiarelli (Springfield CC). Jonathan Farrell (4-over) also qualified on his home course, matching high schoolers Jack Moy (Pleasant Valley CC) and Ben Snyder (Woodland GC).
