Andy Lesenski played his home course well Tuesday by shooting the only under-par round, 2-under 70, to earn medalist honors at Country Club of Greenfield, which hosted the second of six Mass Golf Amateur Public Links Championship qualifiers.

On Monday at The Meadow at Peabody, Michael Kuzara (Bradford CC) cruised towards medalist honors by making four birdies en route to a 4-under-par 67 in the first of six qualifiers.

After the first three qualifiers, 44 players have advanced to the Championship Proper set for August 10-11 at Gannon Municipal Golf Course in Lynn.

At Bass River, Russell poured in three birdies and tallied an eagle on the par-5 seventh hole to secure his spot atop the leaderboard. Russell previously played at Bryant University, and before that won two Division 1 state championships with the Saint John’s (Shrewsbury).

James Levere (Newton Commonwealth) secured second, shooting an even-par 71 with two birdies and two bogeys. Kristofer Hart (Bayberry Hills GC) finished third at 1-over par 72, rolling in three birdies.

At Greenfield, Lesenski made birdie four times, including back-to-back ones on the eighth and ninth holes. The two-time state champion at both Greenfield High School and Turners Falls High School turned professional in 2014 but has since regained his amateur status.

Michael Mertes (Crumpin-Fox), Justin Ducharme (Bedrock GC), Mark Waskiewicz (Crumpin-Fox), and Doug Hutcheson (The Ledges GC) all finished T2, shooting 1-over par 73. Joseph Lenane (KOHR Golf) was also among the qualifiers on Tuesday, shooting a 2-over par 74 and continuing his hot streak. Lenane qualified for the Massachusetts Amateur Championship last week at Green Hill GC in Worcester, tying the course record with a 7-under-par 65.

Stephen Hanjack (Wachusett CC), Mass Golf’s Assistant Director of Strategic Communications, was at the cutline of 3-over through 10 holes, but he didn’t make the cut. However, he finished the round with his lone birdie on the 18th hole.

At Peabody, Kuzara, a former Babson College standout, made three of his four birdies on the front nine in a bogey-free round to best the field by two strokes.

Timothy Richmond (Old Salem Greens) and Sam Bush (George Wright GC) joined Kuzara as the only other two players in the field to shoot under par. Richmond finished with five birdies and three bogeys to shoot a 2-under 69, while Bush made five birdies and four bogeys to shoot a 1-under 70. Rob Neaton (Tewksbury CC) and Church Waesche (Meadow at Peabody) both finished at even par. Neaton made a birdie and a bogey, while Waesche made two of each.

Brendan Mahoney (Granite Links GC) made the lone eagle on the day, carding a 3 on the 459-yard, par-5 seventh hole. He tied three others at 3-over.
