CHATHAM, Massachusetts – On the fifth day of qualifying for the Massachusetts Open Championship, being contested at Vesper Country Club from June 10-12, Spargo Golf Club Fitter Jonathan Pannone, of East Greenwich, Rhode Island, fired a 3-under 68 at Chatham’s Eastward Ho! After bogeying the par-4 fourth hole, Pannone carded a birdie on the par-5 fifth hole and added a pair of back-to-back birdies on the eighth and ninth holes to make the turn at 2-under, then added two more birdies on the 11th and 12th holes to round out his scoring for the day. With his 3-under mark, the former University of South Carolina Beaufort golfer was the only competitor to finish under par, edging the runner-up by four strokes.
Celebrating its 110th year in 2019, the Championship remains the only Mass Golf event of the year with a professional purse. Five others earned alternate status and will be placed on a priority list per the Alternate Policy, which can be found on the Mass Golf Policies and Procedures Page.
