BOYLSTON, Massachusetts – The state’s four-ball tournament for women with handicap indices of 18.1 to 36.0 (Classes C, D & E), was held at The Haven Country Club.
On a picturesque day at The Haven Country Club, Louise Stejbach (Charter Oak Country Club) and Marjorie Lustig (Charter Oak Country Club) pieced together a solid round of golf to claim this year’s title. Two strokes better than their closest competitors, Stejbach and Lustig finished the day with a gross score of 13-over par 85.
Missing the opportunity to hoist the trophy last year after a card-off on their back nine score, Stejbach enjoyed the solo possession of first place with her partner Lustig. As a team, the pair had tallied seven pars across all 18 holes with a strong front nine 40 performance that was essential to their finish atop the leaderboard.
While Stejbach and Lustig took the top spot in the gross score, the team of Gail Cunnane (Foxborough Country Club) and Sandy Spierdowis (Foxborough Country Club) finished as the low scorer in the tournament’s net division, finishing with a final mark of 62.
Next week, the women’s four-ball tournament for higher handicap indices of 18 or less will be held at Easton Country Club where Megan Buck (Thorny Lea GC) and Sue Curtin (Boston GC) will look to make it a three-peat. For more information visit the Hannah D. Townshend Cup home page.
Three more Mass Golf Women’s Tournaments are scheduled throughout the 2019 season, beginning with the Dolly Sullivan at Ledgemont Country Club, which is slated to begin in late August.
