Only one team from each Member Club will be accepted prior to the close of entries on a first come, first served basis. Entries are limited to the first 60 teams.
ABOUT
Mass Golf Men’s Team Matches are a statewide competition among Member Clubs that allows male Mass Golf members to participate in a competitive and social inter-club format. Team Matches will consist of four matches over the course of the summer months (June – September), with one match taking place each month. Teams will compete in four-team regions, and the winner of each region after the four regular season matches will move on to the Men’s Team Matches Championship.
Teams are created, managed and represented by a captain. Captains can be any male Mass Golf member who have an active Handicap Index® at the Member Club they are affiliated with. Captains are required to obtain consent from their host club or course to participate in the Team Matches. Captain’s duties include forming their team’s roster for each match, coordinating matches with their host Member Club, coordinating matches with the other captains in their region and managing the matches in the Golf Genius Tournament Management Program.
FORMAT
Teams of 6 players will compete in Net Four-Ball Match Play against 3 other teams in their region over a schedule of 4 matches- one match per month in June, July, August, and September.
The players on a team may change from match to match, as long as each player maintains an active Mass Golf membership with the Member Club they are representing.
Players will be paired (to form a side) in matches by Handicap Index, low to high (1&2, 3&4, 5&6).
Each match will consist of 2 players (side) from a team competing against 2 players (side) from another team.
Each match consists of 18 holes (see scoring below).
Each team is awarded points as follows: 1 point for winning a hole, .5 points for a tied hole and 0 points for losing a hole. In addition, each side (pairing) will be awarded 2 additional points for every match won.
Mass Golf will develop guidelines for tee sets to be played, based on total playing handicaps for each match (pairing) and course length.
ELIGIBILITY
Mass Golf Members, male, amateur, aged 21 or older, with an active USGA Handicap Index® that is affiliated with the Member Club and the team they play for in the Team Matches.
Mass Golf Members from Affiliate Member Clubs are eligible to participate and form a team after gaining consent from a Member Club willing to host that team’s match. Member Clubs may host matches for more than one team.
Teams representing Member Clubs with a course length of at least 1,500 yards and active course ratings are eligible to participate and host matches. Mass Golf shall endeavor to assign teams with a host course maximum length of 5,000 yards or less to the same region.
A member may play for only one team each season.
To be eligible for a match, a player must be active on the team’s Member Club GHIN® roster at least 1 week prior to a specific match.
