Mass Golf, through a collaboration with the Alliance of Massachusetts Golf Organizations (AMGO) has conducted an Economic Impact Study on the golf industry in the Bay State.
The study collected data from the 2012 calendar year and focused on key impact areas such as job creation, tourism and hospitality, charitable giving, and environmental protection, among others.
The Economic Impact Study indicated that the golf industry in Massachusetts is robust, creating a total economic impact of $2.7 billion. Some key figures were in the areas of:
25,500 jobs providing $796.8 million in wage income
$366.7 million fed into the state economy through golf-related tourism and hospitality
$74.3 million given back through golf-related nonprofit organizations, including the Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund, Jimmy Fund Golf, The First Tee, among many others
91% of the acreage on a golf course is green space that provides benefits to the surrounding ecosystem
