Fitchburg, MA — After what was probably one of the strangest 24-hour periods at a golf course we’ll see this season, we finally know which two of the 21 competitors will advance to the 2017 U.S. Girls' Junior Amateur Championship taking place in late July at Boone Valley Golf Club in Augusta, Missouri.

Nearly 21 hours after the first group hit their first shots, a round that yielded two rain delays and a play suspension due to severe weather in the area, Canada’s C'leste Dao shot a 2-under par 70 to take home medalist honors and advance to the Championship Proper, taking place from July 24-29.
She will be joined by fellow country woman Brigitte Thibault, who shot a 1-over par 73 and defeated Hampstead, New Hampshire’s Lauren Thibodeau in a deciding playoff Wednesday morning to earn the second qualifying spot.
As a result, Thibodeau received first alternate honors and could still see the opportunity to advance to the Championship Proper. That decision would not be known until the days leading up to the national championship, open to those aged 14-18 and who qualified at one of the 39 sectional qualifying sites across the United States between June 19 and July 6.
Sarah Eve Rheaume, of Lac-Delage, Canada, placed fourth on the leaderboard and netted second alternate spot following her 2-over par 74 score.
The medalist Dao, who was able to complete her round on Tuesday evening before play was suspended, fired six birdies, including four in a span of six holes, to take the medalist honors. She will be making her second straight appearance in the U.S. Girls' Junior Amateur Championship.
Last year, Dao finished T8 in the stroke play portion of the event at New Jersey’s Ridgewood Country Club before being upset in the Round of 64 match play by Ellie Szery (Texas).
