Headline: Former The First Tee of Massachusetts Participant and MGA Summer Intern Cora Bernier Places Second at Collegiate Tournament

Brewster, MA — University of Hartford senior and women’s golf team member Cora Bernier, a former participant of The First Tee of Massachusetts and USGA Boatwright intern for the MGA, placed second overall on Sunday at the inaugural New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship.

The event was held at The Captains GC in Brewster and featured five collegiate teams in the field with 24 players.

Bernier, a Taunton native and daughter of the 2013 Andrew J. Blau MGA Volunteer of the Year Award recipient Tom Bernier, fired a 7-over 79 score to finish second to Dudley, Mass. native Catherine French (Assumption College).

Sunday’s second place finish was the seventh event of the 2016-17 season for Bernier and marked the highest tournament finish that the senior has achieved this season. She previously finished T-18 at the Sacred Heart Fall Invite held last October.

Hartford placed first among all five schools, carding a team score of 47-over 335, 15 strokes ahead of Fairfield (350) and 28 ahead of Holy Cross (75).

Also chipping in for the Hawks on Sunday were Junior Brittany Ferrante and freshman Caitlin Maralack, who each fired a 13-over 85 to finish in a tie for second place among Division I golfers and tied for fourth among the entire field.

The New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) is a non-profit organization, which was first organized in 1934 at the Oakley Country Club in Watertown, Massachusetts. NEIGA is believed to be the largest gathering of collegiate players from NCAA Divisions I, II, III and Club competing at the same location on a 36-hole layout.
