Norton, MA — As the MGA continues its mission to grow amateur golf here in the Bay State, the organization has announced two changes to its staff beginning in 2017 that will help continue the growth movement and better serve its current and future members.
Effective January 3, 2017, Shawn Bennett will be promoted to Assistant Director of Rules & Competition while Drew Rosen will become a full-time member of the MGA staff. The announcement was made by MGA Executive Director Jesse Menachem prior to the holiday break.
“We are excited to announce these two changes to the MGA Staff” said Menachem. “Both Shawn and Drew have had a positive influence in their time working with the MGA and both are highly qualified to help lead in the efforts to grow amateur golf in the Commonwealth in the years to come.”
Bennett, who joined the MGA in March 2015 and most recently held the title of Manager of Championships and Member Services, will be responsible for the operations of several MGA Championships in 2017, in addition to taking on a strategic role of volunteer management and recruitment for our Rules Official base.
As the Assistant Director of Rules and Competition, he will also help oversee the addition of the management of the Francis Ouimet Memorial Tournament beginning in 2017 and future management in regards to the women’s championship events as part of the MGA/WGAM merger beginning in 2018.
Rosen, who has most recently served two stints as the MGA’s USGA PJ Boatwright Intern, will join the staff on a full-time basis with the title of Manager of Member Events & Services. He will manage and oversee the MGA Member Day program, which is expected to expand to 20 events in 2017, while also assisting in the introduction of the new USGA Tournament Management program that will be used by the MGA in 2017 under the direction of Mark Gagne, the Director of Member Services.
Rosen will also help with the forecasting of future WGAM Member Events and Tournaments in preparation for the 2018 merger between the MGA and the WGAM.
Bennett is a 2014 graduate of Elon University where he was a four-year member of the men’s golf team while Rosen is a 2015 graduate of Johnson and Wales University in Providence. In addition to previously serving as the MGA’s Boatwright intern, Rosen also worked at Concord Country Club.
