Andover, MA — More than 300 people gathered to both welcome and honor the newest class to the Massachusetts Golf Hall of Fame in a special Induction Gala that took place at Andover Country Club Thursday evening.
Led by the evening’s Master of Ceremonies, former WCVB Emmy Award winning Sports Broadcaster Mike Dowling, with a special guest speaker, Pro Football Hall of Famer Andre Tippett, each of the six new members – Bob Crowley, Bill Flynn, Joe Lazaro, Anne Marie Tobin, Frank Vana, Jr. and Herbert Warren Wind – were officially recognized for their contributions to golf both locally and nationally in their own respective ways.
Joined by several family members and friends of the inductees, the night featured video vignettes that captured the accomplishments of the six inductees and the legacy they leave on the Massachusetts Golf scene. Here are links to those videos:
The two living inductees, Tobin and Vana, participated in a “fireside” style interview where they discussed their illustrious golf careers while family members of the four additional inductees who are no longer with us received the award on their behalf and spoke on what the induction into the Massachusetts Golf Hall of Fame means.
“The Massachusetts Golf Hall of Fame Induction Gala was a fantastic opportunity to honor a tremendously successful group of individuals,” said Jesse Menachem. the MGA's executive director. “Like the two classes before them, this year’s group of inductees had an important impact on golf in the Bay State and their recognition is well deserved.”
In addition to the six new members, several past inductees or their family members were also in attendance to honor the 2016 class.
