Headline: Local Indoor Practice Facility Getting Ready For Winter Season; The Clubhouse Golf and Entertainment Offers Nine Golf Simulators
For Immediate Release: September 26, 2016
Middleton, MA — While most New England golf courses are minimizing their hours and preparing to close down for what hopefully will be a short offseason, one facility in Massachusetts is doing the exact opposite as the cold weather arrives.
At The Clubhouse Golf and Entertainment on Route 114 in Middleton, an indoor practice facility with nine golf simulators, golf is just getting into full swing as the morning temperatures decline and the likelihood of frost delays nears in the coming weeks.
It’s all part of the master plan for Dr. Wayne Pasanen, who opened the facility in December 2011 and has seen extensive growth in each of the first five years. An avid golfer who held the title of Chief of Emergency Medicine at Lowell General Hospital for 40 years, Dr. P., as he is known around the North Shore location, first opened the business after he realized how enjoyable playing simulated golf was.
With a golf simulator installed in the barn of his North Andover residence, Pasanen said, “I saw how much fun other people were having, and I thought, “I think this can be a potential business.”
Knowing that retirement from the medical field would be in forthcoming, Pasanen, who remains as the Medical Director for Habit OpCo's medication assisted, comprehensive drug treatment programs in Lawrence and Lowell, thought that opening the indoor golf facility would be a fun challenge and would be a positive attribute to what he says has been a transitional period for the game of golf.
“All of family recreation has changed tremendously,” said Pasanen. “People don’t have as much time to play golf as they used to. We offer someone the opportunity to come in here and play 18 holes of golf in two or three hours and have it be very realistic.”
Not only is it realistic, but it’s been a great way to teach the game to golfer’s of all ages and abilities without the concern that one is holding other’s back, a feeling that often prevents golfer’s from giving the sport a try.
Eric Karpinski, the Director of Golf Operations and one of the six teaching professionals, stated that The Clubhouse Golf and Entertainment provided an environment that allowed “learning without intimidation.”
“It’s definitely a more relaxed environment and I think it gives you the details that you need, but you can also just go out and hit balls and just learn how far you hit a seven iron and how far you hit an eight iron,” said Karpinski, a former assistant professional at Vesper Country Club where he originally met Pasanen.
That relaxed environment has allowed for all golfers to learn while enjoying the many benefits of the “aboutGolf PGA TOUR Indoor Golf Simulators,” which allows users to play upwards of 70 of the world’s top courses, including the likes of Pebble Beach, Saw Grass and Hazeltine, the site of the 2016 Ryder Cup, on your own time.
With the latest technologies, the golf simulators also allow for instruction that is among the best in the golf industry.
From the three video cameras that capture all angles of your body’s movement on your swing to weight measurements underneath the floor, the aboutGolf simulators truly break down each individual’s play and allows for the utmost instruction on how one might improve.
“We’ve brought in new simulators that are not only conducive to playing any one of the 70 courses, but all of the analysis and all of the teaching could also help people like practice ranges do at their golf courses,” said Dr. Pasanen. “People can use this as their practice range and get a lot of good instruction.”
While he doesn’t expect his business to replace the experience of playing golf on a real course, nor does he want to, his business has quickly become the largest indoor golf facility in New England with over 12,000 square feet of space.
In addition to bringing your own clubs and swinging the way you would from any tee box, fairway or bunker, the simulator system also can incorporate your handicap and allows for medal play, match play or various scrambled formats, which has led to the expansion of several leagues, all of whom can play at the same exact time.
“With nine simulators, we can have 36 players playing the same courses and the same holes at the same time,” said Pasanen. “We set up a league and everyone has the same tee time. It has helped with our league play.”
In addition to playing golf, The Clubhouse Golf and Entertainment also offers darts, corn hole, pool and table tennis and hosts leagues for each respective sport. The facility also has a full size sports bar and several large televisions to watch the top sports games throughout the year.
On October 3, Dr. Pasanen will be hosting a golf tournament at Vesper Country Club where each participant will receive a $50 gift certificate to be used at his indoor golf facility. For more information on the tournament and the business, visit its website at www.theclubhousege.com.
