JUPITER, Florida – Several Mass Golf champions and Player of the Year winners are already competing in the first month of 2020.

Mass Golf Hall of Famer Frank Vana Jr. (Marlborough Country Club) teamed up with Rhode Island standout Bobby Leopold to finish tied for fifth overall at The 2020 National Senior-Junior Championship, which concluded Wednesday at The Dye Preserve Golf Club. Vana, the 2019 George M. Cohen Mass Golf Senior Player of the Year, helped his team card a 65 in the third and final round to finish with a team gross score of 199.

Each pair in the Senior-Junior Division of this stroke play invitational featured a mid-amateur and a senior player. The Legends Division paired a super senior (65-69) with a legend (70+).

Tennessee’s Tim Jackson and Craig Smith won the event, leading all 39 pairs with a score of 195 over three days.

The championship format starts Best-Ball in Round 1, Pinehurst Format in Round 2 and Scramble Format in Round 3.  The event took place on a course re-done by Pete Dye, a famous course architect, who died on Thursday in the Dominican Republic.

Matt Parziale (Thorny Lea), the 2019 Richard D. Haskell Mass Golf Player of the Year, joined Doug Clapp (Old Sandwich GC) and cracked the top 10 with taking 8th place (69-69-63–201). The pair won the Norfolk County Four-Ball together in 2018.

Jack Kearney (Westover GC), the 2019 Senior Amateur champion, and Tyler Cook finished with a 66 in the scramble, but finished 33rd overall (72-74-66–212).

In the Legends Division, senior Four-Ball champion Kevin Carey (Dennis Pines GC) joined Bill Van Faasen (Essex CC/Old Sandwich GC) and placed 9th overall (67-75-66–208) out of 15 pairs.
