Mass Golf | Become a Golf Volunteer in Massachusetts

mass golf opportunities

Mass Golf is proud to manage one of the largest and most successful volunteer programs in the Northeast. The Mass Golf Volunteer Program has been designed to provide the highest level of service to golfers and golf clubs all across Massachusetts.

Without the support and dedication of its volunteer base, Mass Golf would not be able to manage its many programs and services throughout the season. We currently work with individuals located across the Bay State who provide assistance with our Championship events (Mass Golf, NEGA and USGA), Tournaments, Member Days, Course Rating and Junior Golf programs.

Here is a description of the opportunities that are available.

Championship, Tournament & Member Day Volunteers

Based on one’s level of previous experience, Championship, Tournament and Member Day Volunteers are designated into one of the following categories: General Volunteer or Rules Official.

Attention: We will be hosting a Rules Official/Volunteer Recruitment Seminar on a date TBD. We are in need of Rules Officials and Volunteers for our Championships, Qualifiers and Tournaments and have a wide range of volunteer opportunities available to fit everyone’s skills, knowledge and desires. Anyone interested please contact (drosen@massgolf.org).

General Volunteers (needed for all Mass Golf events)
Serve as hosts, marshals, pace of play monitors, live scoring officials, and many other important roles at each event. It is a great opportunity to gain valuable behind-the-scenes experience in all facets of golf administration.

Rules Officials (needed for all Mass Golf events)
Provide on-course assistance to players with regards to the Rules of Golf and pace of play. Rules Officials are appointed by Mass Golf based on their knowledge of the Rules of Golf and their experience in officiating.

COURSE RATING VOLUNTEERS

There are course rating teams in different regions of the state and are assigned courses in their geographic area. Mass Golf course raters follow strict USGA guidelines for rating each course.

Typically, teams of two are assigned a specific set of tees to rate in which a multitude of different variables must be determined to accurately calculate a proper course and slope rating.

If you are interested in becoming a course rater, please contact Keith Gagnon – kgagnon@massgolf.org

JUNIOR GOLF VOLUNTEERS

Help to grow the game of golf by becoming a volunteer for The First Tee of Massachusetts, which is managed directly by the Mass Golf staff.

There are many volunteer and involvement opportunities with The First Tee of Massachusetts. To get involved, please contact Kyle Harris – kharris@massgolf.org
