Entries are open to amateur golfers who have an active GHIN Handicap Index in any of the six New England states at any public, private, semi-private, municipal or non-real estate member course/club not exceeding 17.4 (as determined by the June 1, 2019 Handicap Revision), or who have completed their handicap certification.
Entries will be selected by index (low to high) as published revision date. This is not a first come, first served registration.
WAGR COUNTING EVENTThe World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), which comprises a women’s ranking and a men’s ranking for elite amateur players, is offered by The R&A and the USGA as a global service to golf. WAGR is updated every Wednesday on www.wagr.com and is available to national federations and organizers of amateur and professional events and tours for purposes of offering exemptions, selecting national teams and assembling Orders of Merit. WAGR currently incorporates over 4,000 events with over 10,000 players and endeavors to be the most comprehensive and accurate ranking in golf by effectively comparing players from around the world who may never directly compete against one another.
Shannon Johnson (Thorny Lea GC) traveled to Falmouth, Maine with a goal of winning her second championship in as many months.
Following 54 holes of stroke play at The Woodlands Club against a field of some of the top golfers from the six New England states, Johnson accomplished her goal and captured the 2018 NEWGA Championship title.
Johnson finished with a three-round score of 2-under par 214, which was five strokes better than second-place finisher Hannah Ghelfi (Pocasset GC). It marks her first career NEWGA Championship crown and her second major win of the season.
