Celebrating its 110th year in 2018, the Massachusetts Amateur Championship remains the oldest Mass Golf Championship open to men and women alike. Eleven competitors from the Bass Rocks Golf Club qualifying site in Gloucester moved on to the Championship Proper, while the other 10 secured spots from the Hickory Ridge Golf Club qualifier in Amherst.

Eight additional competitors, who finished one spot below the final qualifying spot each their respective qualifying sites, earned alternate status and will be placed on a priority list per the Alternate Policy, which can be found on the Mass Golf Policies and Procedures Page.

Salem Country Club’s Kevin Daly, 49, the new head golf coach at Salem State University, led the field of 11 qualifiers Thursday at the Bass Rocks site, making birdie on four of his first seven holes, then holding on to finish the day at even par 69, three strokes ahead of second place on the leaderboard, which was secured by Andover’s Owen Elliot.

At the Amherst site, it was Andover native and Limestone College golfer Brett Krekorian (Indian Ridge CC) leading the charge. Krekorian finished with four birdies and an eagle on the par-5 11th hole en route to his 5-under par 67, to earn the top spot on the leaderboard. At 5-under par 67, Krekorian also notched the lowest score to date in state amateur qualifying, besting the likes of Owen Quinn and Jason Cook who had each shot 4-under par in their respective qualifiers over the last two days.
