Golf season is *almost* upon us and it feels like the right time to call to ways to get involved with the game. Besides our tournament and championship events, we recently launched the Women’s One-Day series, allowing for all levels of women to feel involved with the game of golf. But another large portion of our organization is built on volunteers.
With the support of volunteers across the organization, we are able to manage programs and services throughout the season, as well as successfully execute each championship event.
Mass Golf Volunteers become a community within our community of golfers, helping each other for each task at hand.
The different categories of volunteer opportunities available for Mass Golf:
Course Rating Volunteers NEEDED!
Course Rating volunteering is an opportunity more specifically for the experience golfer. Something not everyone always thinks of when they want to get involved in volunteering is the direct impact our volunteers have on the game. Without course raters, we wouldn’t be able to host events based on Handicap Index.
So in turn, the course rating volunteer program is looking for more involvement, especially from women across the bay state.
“Course rating is the backbone of the GHIN System” said Tom Giffin, Manager of Course Rating and Services. Essentially, it’s why everyone has Handicap Index and allows them to compete fairly against one another. “A Handicap means nothing without a course rating” said Giffin.
Anyone who has experience with the game and enjoys it could find a safe space to expand on their involvement with Mass Golf through Course Rating Volunteer Opportunities.

Other opportunities include:
General Volunteers (needed for all Mass Golf events)
Serve as hosts, marshals, pace of play monitors, live scoring officials, and many other important roles at each event. It is a great opportunity to gain valuable behind-the-scenes experience in all facets of golf administration.
Rules Officials (needed for all Mass Golf events)
Provide on-course assistance to players with regards to the Rules of Golf and pace of play. Rules Officials are appointed by Mass Golf based on their knowledge of the Rules of Golf and their experience in officiating.
Junior Golf Volunteers
Help to grow the game of golf by becoming a volunteer for The First Tee of Massachusetts, which is managed directly by the Mass Golf staff.
