BRETTON WOODS, New Hampshire – For Team Massachusetts, the theme of the final round of the New England Junior Amateur on Wednesday was persistence at Mt. Washington Resort Golf Course. After playing through stormy and washy conditions, the end result made the experience worth it, especially with Team Mass Golf taking home the boys division title.
The boys team shot a low score of 3-under in the final round while the girls division shot 4-over, finishing with team scores of 33-under and 17-over, respectively.
“To know the majority of the kids on this team outside of the golf course made this week so special,” said Mass Golf’s Manager of Women’s Events Jen Morahan, the coach of the squad.
“Seeing them in their element battling the weather conditions and staying true to their game was so much fun to watch. For some, it was their last junior competition before heading off to college. They all add their own special piece to the team, and this group really bonded together the last few days.”
The Boys Division individual title was awarded to Team Connecticut’s Luke Stennett, a URI commit who finished the championship with a total of 12-under par.
Coming in tied for second place was Team New Hampshire’s Josiah Hakala and Team Maine’s Eli Spaulding. Both players trailed 1 stroke behind Stennett, finishing at 11-under. Tied for fourth were Mass Golf’s players C.J. Winchenbaugh and Sascha Robinson, finishing with scores of 8-under.

“I didn’t have my best ball striking through what felt like my first 13 or 14 holes and I found something on hole 15,” Robinson said. “I was able to birdie 2 of my last through holes to finish one under.”
Winchenbaugh shot 73 Wednesday, with his 63 on Tuesday helping him place in the top 5.
Following close behind 6th, 7th, and 8th place were Thomas Murdough, Ryan Scollins, and Patrick Ginnity. Murdough shot a 75, while Scollins finished even-par, and Ginnity 2-under.
Reese Jensen and Alan Rose also contributed to the team score, with scores of 1-under and 1-over, respectively.
Team Rhode Island’s Kylie Eaton took the girls individual title. Eaton put up an impressive 5-under through the first two rounds and finished 2-under overall. Mass Golfer Annie Dai finished in fourth, shooting an even-par 72 to bring her to a total of 7-over.
“It was a great experience and I had a lot of fun with my teammates,” said Dai, a former Mass Girls’ Junior Amateur winner. “I didn’t play my best the first day but had a solid round today. It was nice to see the Mass team play so well. I’m proud of our team.”
Piper Jordan gave her sentiments as well, as Wednesday was more than just a championship for her.
“I am very grateful for the opportunity to represent Mass Golf in such an amazing event,” Jordan said. “Both the course and people were awesome. Emma Abramson and I were talking about how it was our last junior event. We had so much fun together and made so many memories.
She made a joking remark that Piper’s future school Middlebury College is better than Abramson’s future school Williams College. Even as college rivals, they’ll always be friends.
