This week, the high school fall golf season wrapped up in Massachusetts with the playing of the three divisional state championships on Tuesday. Enclosed are the individual and team results from those matches.
Despite starting out with an 0-6 record this season, the Boston College High School Eagles swung their season around and ended up taking home a state title. BC High finished with a team total of 311 (+23) to win the title by five strokes over St. John’s (Shrewsbury), Xaverian and Wellesley. St. John’s earned second-place team honors in a tiebreaker.
Andrew TeDuits and Danny Fearing both shot 2-over 74 to finish T3 and lead the Eagles. Nick McCabe (78), JJ Campbell (82), Mike Marshall (86), and Jack Waldner (86) also competed for BC High.
Longmeadow’s Ryan Downes made five birdies and an eagle to earn the individual state title with a score of 3-under 69. The recent Vanderbilt University commit adds to his season of success, which includes a victory in the Ouimet Memorial Tournament winner and runner-up finish in the Mass Amateur Championship.
Westford Academy’s Molly Smith, who recently committed to the University of Central Florida, finished solo second place with an even-par 72.
In the closest competition of the day, Old Rochester Regional in Mattapoisett capped a perfect 14-0 regular season with a team state title as the Bulldogs finished with a score of 302 (+14), edging out Bishop Stang and Duxbury by one stroke. Old Rochester’s Philip le Gassick shot a 3-under par 69 to place second overall. Markus Pierre (75), Braden Yeomans (78) and Peter le Gassick (80) also contributed to the victory.
Patrick Ginnity (St. Bernards), who played in the U.S. Junior Amateur this year, shot 4-under 68 with seven birdies to earn the individual title.
One year after being edged out in a tiebreaker, Weston High School emerged victorious in the Division 3 state championship with a score of 302 (+14), besting runner-up Martha’s Vineyard by five strokes.
Despite starting the day with two bogeys, Zach Pelzar paced the squad by shooting 4-under 68 and in the process capturing the individual title. Finn Maher (77), Willaim Goldstein (78), JP Noone (79), William Balz (89), and Rob Morsilli (92) rounds out the squad for Weston.
