What do you want your game to look like in 2022? With the golf season just a few months away, it is time to come out of hibernation and think about setting realistic goals for yourself. No matter what level golfer you consider yourself, improving in different areas makes the game more enjoyable and offers up a good personal challenge. We’ve got a few examples of what those goals could be and hope that you draw some inspiration from this list to create your own personal aspirations.
LOWER YOUR HANDICAP INDEX
Your handicap is one of the best tools you have to measure improvement in playing the game. Setting a handicap index goal is one of the more popular season long goals you can implement.
GET MORE DISTANCE OFF THE TEE
Most people can get behind this. Perhaps it’s time to consider a strength training program and exercises you can do to improve your flexibility.
HIT MORE CONSISTENT SHOTS
Perhaps you have mastered the art of managing the misses, but wouldn’t it be great to hit more consistent shots? More fairways in regulation, less lost golf balls, and a better feeling knowing that when you swing the club it will do exactly what you intended for it to do.
PLAY NEW COURSES
Did you know that there are over 200 public access courses in Massachusetts? Make it a goal to play as many of them as you can. Our Club Finder tool will help you locate some in your area and you could always read up on our travels around the state in our Staycation Blog.
GO LOW
Pick your next realistic low score and get to work. Is this the year you will break 100, 90, 80…?
MINIMIZE 3 PUTTS
The best way to shave strokes off your score is to work on your putting. There are plenty of indoor drills you can be doing right now as you work towards your goal of being a better putter in 2022.
UNDERSTAND YOUR YARDAGES
Having an understanding of the yardage for each club in your bag will lead to more confidence and better club selection out on the course. The winter is a great time to take advantage of simulators and the technology available to us to get these numbers.
PLAY IN A COMPETITIVE EVENT
Think you are ready to test your skill against other golfers of similar playing ability? Why not take a chance this year and give a competitive event a try? No matter the outcome on the course, you will have the opportunity meet some women to play with in the future. Check out our schedule of Women’s Tournaments and Women’s Championships.
BECOME A STUDENT OF THE GAME
Reading articles (like this), watching video, and just generally learning about the game leads to a better appreciation for it. Be a sponge and share what you learn with your friends.
PLAY MORE GOLF
Now this is something we can all get behind! Let Mass Golf know how we can motivate you to get out there to play more often.
